During the lengthy ablution process, after showering, and before lying in silence, covered in masks, I like to cover the whole rest of myself in lotions. The rest of myself is not as horribly dry as my face and scalp because it is more easily hidden away, so why would it torture me.
However, it definitely needs to be moisturized—just not as aggressively as the face.
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist is a face lotion I also use on my body underneath other lotions when I’ve decided to be over-the-top. And also sometimes when I want to put on lotion that has no smell at all. A little goes a long way, and it’s not greasy. It’s very watery. And then sticky, but only for a few minutes as it absorbs. You can swan around in your towel while it sinks in.
Mountain Ocean Skin Trip Moisturizer is really the best body lotion. It tends to jump around in price, ranging from $7 or $8 to $11 or $12. Needless to say, I lurk it, then buy in bulk when it’s on the $7 end of the spectrum, and rage and sling fits when it’s on the $12 end. It smells like a warm coconut. It’s light, absorbs very quickly, and is not at all greasy. In fact, it almost has a bit of a powdery feel. One of the ingredients in this guy is lanolin, depending on how you feel about that (I love, clearly).
SOL DE JANEIRO Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is a body cream that’s supposed to tighten and smooth skin (with its caffeine ingredients), specifically your “bum.” Gross. I hate that word so much. My eyes roll just writing it. It’s also $45 for 8.1 ounces. I got it on sale after reading that it smells incredible (many lengthy reviews on fragrance, few reviews on whether it “works”). It does smell very. VERY. Good. Like cocoa butter, vanilla/caramel, and something sort of nutty and salty. Brazil nuts? I kid. Probably not. It absorbs quickly and has a bit of a very subtle shimmer. So subtle I did not notice it had a shimmer at all until Rusty, who loved the smell along with everyone else in the world, tried it and was horrified at being “covered in sparkles.” That’s making me laugh and laugh to think about…
Weleda Skin Food is the best lotion for extremely dry times. It’s thick, somewhat greasy, and smells somewhat intensely medicinal. It’s a smell that does not linger for ages. But. It’s definitely a smell. Also, like Skin Trip, it contains lanolin, along with beeswax, chamomile, viola tricolor (Johnny Jump up), calendula (English marigold), and other ingredients. If you have somewhere dry that is resisting undrying, and you put this on before bed, by the time you wake up, it will be cured. I use it on my hands. Which like to chap instantly in the winter.
