The Best Body Washes, According to Me

While I hate baths and refuse to ever take one—they’re boring; the water is nice for two minutes at most after being too hot to get into, and after two minutes at an acceptable temperature becomes unbearably cold; you have to take a shower afterward because you’ve just been sitting in…yuck—I love a fancy shower item.

Am even willing to spend actual money on them as a little luxury. Clearly, I use all of these with my most favorite thing: the Turkish bath mitt.

Le Petit Marseillais is a very affordable French skincare line that moved into the US market in early 2017. Of course it’s been available on Amazon for ages. And now you can buy it at Walmart. I suggest Orange Blossom and Lavender Honey from that line. But. My favorite is Lilac. It’s not available at Walmart, but you can get it on Amazon, and I highly recommend. It smells exactly like lilac, so there’s really no need to attempt to describe the smell.

Not quite as affordable…

Le Labo is a fragrance company with a cult following and very expensive fragrances. And slightly less expensive shower gels and oils. One of which is Mandarin / Sesame. It’s made with sesame oil, rosemary leaf, and sunflower oil and has a mandarin scent with “notes of geranium.” It super fresh, clean, and not perfumey, and I feel super fancy when I use it.

MALIN + GOETZ makes “skincare easy, starting with sensitive skin.” Why yes, I do have extremely sensitive skin. The rum body wash doesn’t smell so much like rum to me, but it does smell wonderful (like rum). It has a strong, sort of old-fashioned masculine scent and then also sort of smells like a not-ripe mango? out of the bottle that wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Now I’m really into it. My body chemistry tends to turn everything sweet—like taking complex and interesting scents and turning them into candy. So the interesting way this smells in the bottle does turn into something a little vanilla cakey on me. But I still love it.
